I didn’t leave Croatia.
But my family did.

Packed up what they could.
Left behind what they couldn’t.
Chased a better life in a place that didn’t always feel like home.

And growing up—I lived between two worlds.
One with rain-slick pavements, grey skies, and rigid clocks.
The other…
Well, it wasn’t even about the geography.
It was a feeling.
A taste.
A rhythm.

The way a meal meant something.
The way the sun dropped behind the sea like it knew it was painting.
The way people saw you, without needing to say much.

That place—Croatia—it lived in our food, our music, our stories.
And somewhere along the way,
it started whispering.

Not loud.
Not urgent.
Just a nudge.

“Come back.”

And I think—if you’re honest—
you’ve felt it too.

That quiet knowing that
no amount of pavement or progress
will ever fully replace the way your feet feel
on the soil your family once called theirs.

So maybe this isn’t about running back.
Maybe it’s about returning with intention.
With a vision.

Not just to live here.
But to build.
To reconnect.
To carry the story forward.

Because the truth is—
some of us weren’t meant to stay gone forever.
Some of us were always meant to return.

If this stirs something in you…
I’d say don’t rush.

Just sit with it.
Watch the sun set where it used to rise for your parents.
And when you're ready—
reach out.

There’s a whole life waiting to be written here.
And something tells me,
you’ve got a chapter left to tell.
